NMC pitched in to assist Tafelsig High School with its 67 minutes for Mandela project held on 18 July 2010. The teachers, pupils and parents of Tafelsig High School set out to give their classrooms and schoolgrounds a blitz make-over – the first in 26 years.
Tafelsig High principal, Ruschda O’Shea, says that this initiative has shown the pupils that anything can be achieved by simply taking ownership and working together as a team.
With the help of Midas Paint and Hire-It Maitland NMC construction donated a total of 1400 litres of paint, labour and scaffolding enabling the more than 500 volunteers, including Mr Trevor Manual and Mr Marius Fransman, to repaint 32 classrooms, sand 1000 desks, clean the school grounds and plant a food garden.
